Goodnight friends! The streak of blazing summer weather broke today. Still warm but beginning to dip a little, below 18°c. More prominently clouds returned in force, the afternoon darkened by a long, towering band of grey-mottled cumulus with a ruler-straight edge that loomed in fron the west. The feeling of cool gathering breath hinting at some overnight rain. Bumblebees still busy burrowing though, innumerable little black spiders flickering among the grass, and a glossy blue-black female St. Mark’s fly with its high round back, dark wings and long rear legs, just missing their traditional emergence day on the 25th. First vetch flowers sparking among the grass, more purples and white golds and caterpillar textures on the waving heads of orchard grass and foxtails and needle-tipped bromes.

Sleep a little disturbed and some dizziness over the day, but generally feeling about as energetic as I’d expect and fairly confident in being fully over this cold by midweek. A long phone conversation with a long-time friend, time compressing and telescoping as we leapt across years and miles and tiptoed carefully back through memories of endless half-hours. It took a good portion of my energy for the day, but very glad to have been able to do it. Felt the changing air pressure begin to crush down on me a little, but managed a little writing and editing for my TTRPG group in the evening.

May we find ways to share joy and rekindle precious connections today!
