Goodnight friends! Heatwave spiking up in earnest today, 33°c for most of the afternoon and warmer days predicted through the end of the week. Dizzyingly broad sunwashed expanse of clear blue sky, canopies dark and mostly still in breathless dry air that rocks you back on your heels with sheer physical impact of the baking heat. Pale green laburnum peapods are beginning to burst and wither to twists of sere ribbon, dazzlingly bright white butterflies strobe across my vision. A third kind of call from the crickets and grasshoppers I think, a thin, high peeping buzz, a regular rapid tik-tik-tik, and now a pulsed, punctuated drone.
A very sedate and careful day. Whole body aching, back and thighs particularly tender and sore from exercise, and a general weariness from sleeping badly in the overnight heat. Took things very slow and easy, and had a gentle date night with my girlfriend.
