Goodnight friends! Still warm, about 18°c, but feeling deceptively cool again thanks to the wind and damp air. A much finer day though, large sweeps of pale blue sky marked by only hazy white streaks of cirrus, through there were slow-scudding columns of dark grey clouds along the horizon. A few thin, pale purple flames of Autumn crocus buds in the grass, rosettes of yellow leaves among the oak branches. Disturbed a young fox mid-nap, seeming to regard me with a pitiful, mortified gaze.
A relief to feel mostly recovered from the severe pains of yesterday, but a lingering ennervated hangover of malaise and exhaustion drained me quickly – everything taking longer and needing more breaks. Managed some household admin and a little drawing, but everything in very small, fragile windows of focus and stamina.
May we find moments of warmth, connection and solace today!
Image ID: Photo of a brindled and scruffy red fox, rust and ochre fur with half-pricked black-backed ears, laying on drooping green grass scattered with fallen leaves, curled into a circle with nose tucked into its haunch, lidded golden eyes fixed on the viewer from beneath its brows.
Photo of a pair of long-stemmed puffball fruiting bodies, sprouting so close together that their thick stems are pressed into each other, forming a V shape with two large, rounded creamy grey caps textured by tiny pilling fibres splayed out at opposing 30° angles, the transition between cap and stem curiously smooth and without defined undersides or gills.
