Goodnight friends! The first heatwave day, hard going but locally not quite as punishing as it could have been, thankfully – it never quite boiled up over 40°c, but it was a little dreadful to watch thermometers tick up and up, hour by hour. Heat rebounded off pavement like the wash of an open oven, the leaves and pink bell-mouthed flowers of indefatigable Himalayan balsam with its roots in the stream deflated and shrivelling. On mostly deserted pathways lone deer and herons patrol the sudden scorched quiet. The first thistles have burst into clouds of shaggy fuzz.
So far the most concerning part of the heat for me personally has been feeling tremulous hot pangs of my pulse in my head, constantly just on the verge of a headache. Careful not to exert myself too much, and only do much thinking or moving around in the morning and evening.
May we find respite and mutual care today!
