Goodnight friends! Museum outing day. Taking advantage of being close by Leeds before the comics festival and avoiding the endless chilly rain – starting as drizzle but pelting down in a vicious wind-blown gale by late afternoon – we went to the royal armouries museum. Its an extraordinary, beautiful, bizarre and frightening collection of objects I’ve wanted to explore for years. I came away a little drained, dizzied and dazzled, weight of history, of empire, of gorgeous detail.

May we find new perspectives and inspirations today!

Image ID: Photo of the rim of a round Indian dhal shield, probably from around Lahore in the 18th century, made from satiny silver-grey crucible steel with multiple small domed starbust-edged bosses as well as a broad border of intricate gold floral and foliate patterns, and within that inlaid gold koftgiri designs of scrolling vines and a stylised wide-jawed crocodile.
