Good evening friends! An energetic start to the day, but began to feel weary and deflated very quickly. Maybe it was partly down to the temperamental sky and changing air pressure – a bright blue start, then sudden sporadic clattering, tiny confetti hail falling from a seemingly clear sky as if thrown by the handful. Hour by hour light and colour and the character of the air shifted, a tart sharp-edged chill the only constant.

I sank into a chair for most of the afternoon, head lolling, unable to think myself into moving for a long blank grey time. Luckily when I could finally stir it was still light, a buttery pale and indigo 6 PM pulled back up out of winter darkness. On an island in a pool I saw a wheeling flock of little egrets settling to roost, white as apple blossoms against dark trees and dark water.

May we exercise patience and thoughtfulness today!
