Goodnight friends! Warm and bright with plumey curlicues and drifting gauze-screen clouds in the hazy blue sky. Tiny grasshoppers, seeming like pale straw yellow early instar versions of the ones I’m used to, already extravagantly loud, their dry mechanical chrr-chrr-chrring suffusing the barely swaying oat-grass and their underlayer of day vetch seedpods and bright yellow meadow peas, the perfect music for the early afternoon’s dry heat. A more humid early evening gradually slid into a faint cascade of thinz ongoing overnight drizzle.

A bleary, cotton wool weight of post-activity malaise sank heavily over me, not so much crushing as dragging, smothering, a diffuse, omnipresent pain and exhaustion. I managed an abbreviated walk, out to the churchyard but not around it, knowing it would be most of what I could do for the day – I think the sunlight and joint mobility helped my medium-teem prospects, as much as the aftermath drained me for today.
May we find rest and recovery today!
