Goodnight friends! Patchily blue to start, with stipples of cloud gradually merging and darkening and closing in. Tops of sark-crowned trees touched with a ruddy haze of changing leaves, more noticeable in the dim sky. Rain began as the slow irregular tok-tok drum of unwinding clockwork, but gradually came to a fitful rattle as dark fell.
My girlfriend took me out to the circus this afternoon. I can’t recall when, or even if, I’ve ever been to one before. It was pretty extraordinary. Hectic blaze of light and wonder, diesel and popcorn, sparkle of sequins, spectacular feats of athleticism, too-loud pop music. Feeling weakened by the rain amd the surfeit of sensation and amazement, I’ve mostly just been resting, ringing slowly fading from my ears.
May we allow ourselves to be open to new experiences, and for the newness concealed in the familiar today!

Three trapeze artists are mostly hidden among the scaffolding and guy ropes that seem to link painted stars into angular geometric constellations, but spotlights fling two long sets of their shadows against the canvas above.
